Hippie Love

So when I was younger I was a hippie for halloween so many times because I just loved the style. I had waist long center parted dirty blonde hair then too. But now I still love the style and the fact that it's okay to wear hippie headbands in public once again. (not that that ever stopped me before)
So I made this polyvore about hippie fashion

And I dressed kinda hippie too.

I just started a new book, so the pull to read is too strong.
Um, Peace!!

M.A.C. Owns My Soul (tyler's too) & Help!

Yesterday we went to the mall in search of a good foundation and walked out of there with almost $400.00 in M.A.C. products. But I did learn how to do my eyeshadow, and now I'm not frighteningly yellow anymore.

Though, I did walk around the mall looking like a drag queen as a result of allowing the M.A.C. lady to do my makeup.
When we got home I showed Tyler my M.A.C. loot, and he fell in love with how soft the foundation brush is.

But I'm really proud of myself because I woke up this morning and did my makeup and I didn't look too appalling.

Then today we went down to my college on a test run because I'm going to take the trolley to and from school. On the way down to SDSU I realized that I don't have a bookbag or anything. So mom said I could look for a purse to tote my books and laptop in. Now I'm in search of the perfect bag. So far, all the bags I've been craving are way out of my price range. (which I estimate is around $200.00)
I do like the ones at Urban Outfitters, but that store is not known for well-made items and I'm afraid their purses might not be an exception to the rule. Then there's this Ed Hardy one which I adore, but I don't think I'll get as much use out of it as i would a normal black leather bag. I need one to accomidate a 9" by 13.5" laptop, a few schoolbooks and notebooks. Any suggestions? I swear I looked through every bag on shopstyle.com.
Here are the two I like but don't LOVE.

Help!

since widgets are not working at the moment.
enjoy my slice of indie music love.

The Controversial Shoes

So when I first received the Journey's catalog many months ago featuring the Xtra-Hi Converse I was ecstatic.
Yea, you can pick on me for it, but ever since I saw these shoes on Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, I've wanted a pair.

So of course I bought them in black and told everyone I was getting awesome new shoes. Though when I wore them to school I was disappointed that the only comment I received was from a goth girl who said she had the same pair in dark green.
Regardless, I still love them. What do you think about them? I would really like some outside opinions.

Well, I'm off to read.

My First Love

Will always be music. So i felt the need to express that passion in my blog. I constantly surround myself with musicians and my style is heavily influenced by them. I own a guitar, yet I can barely strum a chord. Also, my boyfriends are always musicians. My all-time favorite quote is "Music hath charms to soothe a savage beast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak...."- William Congreve. This quote has held true for me. But music has so many other talents. It changes my mood instantly, and through another's lyrics I express myself quite frequently.
Musicians have amazing talents and should truly be praised as the gods of society.

But, the way I will relate this rambling on about music to my style is through Vanity Fair's recent Fashion Rocks magazine. In it there is an article about Joan Jett and her punk style. I am very inspired by her look and individuality.

This is a much more recent picture but I couldn't find any ones of her circa 1980s that weren't completely blurred out. She rocks leather, black on black, thick smugy eyeliner, and doesn't give a fuck what you think!

Also, Stevie Nicks is another music icon who has an amazing style. She was featured in a previous issue of Fashion Rocks.

Rocker women, definately know how to work it. Except Hayley Williams. That hairstyle screams get the poor girl a fire extinguisher.

But today I didn't dress very rocker-chic. This is what I wore:

I curled my hair because I was home alone and had nothing better to do. It's naturally curly but with all the bleaching I've put it through I had no idea it would hold the curls as well as it did. There is no pose here, I took the picture just before I changed into my pajamas.

Well, it's almost 4:30am here in Cali, so I'm going to take my book (Breaking Dawn) and go enjoy the breaking dawn over the mountains at my house.
It looks something like this:

Lovely Things

Today I found this illustrator online who had many gorgeous illustrations that I enjoyed looking at. True most of the site is in Japanesee but it's still beautiful artwork.
Like this one:

My second enjoyment of the day is the Victoria's Secret clothing line. So while you're wearing your $50 dollar bra, you can cover up with these pieces. The undergarments have always put me off because of the price, but the clothing is priced more reasonably (though still hardly affordable) and every piece is lovely. I think it might be the curvy-tastic models, but I really want so many of their dresses it's incredible.
This one is my favorite, I think because it looks so absolutely comfy. Plus it's $69 dollars and covers a lot more than a bra of that price would.

this one too, because like 20 different outfit combinations come to mind when i see it.

and they have a leather jacket that is to die for

feminine and tough, i love it!

Today i wore no face makeup, which is a first, and I actually didn't feel too terrible going out into public. My latest clothing obsession is men's froot of the loom undershirt tank tops. I wear one almost every day. They are so comfortable and can be worn so many different ways because they are just a white tank top. Today I wore one with my extra high waisted forever 21 black shorts.

On a final note, gauze is not a fabric to make dresses out of, and only people under the age of seven should be caught in terry cloth. (mental notes I made from my onliune browsing today)
Oh and I love chocolate oranges. And people who read my blog <3

Recent Thrifting Adventures

So my best friend Tyler and I often go on random thrifting outtings, and our favorite place to go is Hillcrest. It's the gay community in San Diego and they have the best thrift shops, and the most fashionable people, and everytime you go you make new friends. So yesterday we took one of those outings and had a blast! We completely found our new favorite thrift store. It's called Rags and it's hidden in between 6th and 5th avenue, we almost passed it by. I'm so glad we paused to look around. The lady behind the counter had bright orange hair, and she was assisting a man who was giving her his old clothes to sell, and the man was making happy remarks and was really excited about how much they pay back for clothing. There are so many racks of clothing, in the front of the store there's more recent clothing, and in the back there's a vintage section. They sell tons of cowboy boots and fedoras too! Tyler bought a sickle and hammer shirt, because he's a socialist and is convinced he's going to be the leader of the USSA one day. But anyway, they have brand new sunglasses for sale, and I got a great pair that reminded me of the ones Ellen Page wore in Juno.

They were onle $8.50! :D
here is me in them:

Rags was amazing, and we will definately be returning it's like a less pricy version of the Buffalo Exchange. That store makes me and Tyler sick because it's always so crowded and the shirts can be bought for less in an actual store. I tried on a pair of shoes that were priced at $40! But I did find a nice leather jacket there for only $35, but it was too heavy and looked new, I really want a worn-in looking one. I know I shoulda bought it for Ebay at least, but I'm not 18 and my mother hates me using her Ebay account for everything. So i guess it's a treasure for someone else to find, if they can fight their way through the crowd.
Also, we stopped by American Apparel in Hillcrest, and Tyler had never been in there before, and he walked in and said "I'm in love." He was so amazed by the shiny tights and every color of v-neck you could ever want. I got a navy colored skirt which I'm in love with. (the one that everyone has in mustard color, like Pandora, and TheNewClothesHorse, their links are in my admired blogs section)
Then we went into Wear It Again Sam, which is amazingly well put together and only sells immaculate clothing. They specialize in dresses, but even though they are used they are all priced at $75 or more. They are in very lovely condition and most are brand name, so the price is a steal, I will defiantely be returning to that store for any dressy occasion I might need a new outfit for. They have many nice fedoras as well for $30 a piece, and all of the men's clothes are really nice and funky. But, most of the men's clothes are geared towards the citizens of Hillcrest, so Tyler didn't find anything he was dying to purchace. I gushed over many dressed, but I was looking for a black lace one and didn't find anything that fit what I wanted, so we left the store empty handed.
But all in all my Hillcrest outting was a success and I looooove my new sunglasses and our new favorite thrift store. I just can't wait till we go again!

Grunge Returns

Marie Claire proves it with the August 08 issue.

Expensive grunge too.
But I'm kind of stoked for big plaid button down (possible flannel) shirts.
I told my two (boy) best friends that today and they got so excited and started listing off grungy clothing they could buy, ex: black jeans, big flannel shirts, pull over hoodies to wear under the flannel shirts, working boots (Doc Martens), and light denim. All very scary, but it made them happy.

List of things I want:
Doc Martens (white ones) there's also floral ones which are adorable, but I don't knwo what I'd wear them with.
plaid shirt
shortalls (cause overalls won't be happening with me) and I saw a girl with a reeallly cute pair of shortalls at the beach today.

I love the 90s show My So Called Life, so I want to dress like these kids, it just looks so comfy and wearable for college.

okay, maybe a more polished version of these kids.

like this. one outrageous piece at a time. she makes these shoes look so delicate.
